This information is designed to help you promote your Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger Challenge efforts in your local area. Use this checklist as a step-by-step guide to ensure that you have everything covered.

6 Weeks in Advance of Any Food or Fund Drive Activity: Designate a “media contact” on your team who will be in charge of media outreach efforts.

  • Download media materials and customize them with team-specific information
  • Add local team details into key messages, releases and alerts
  • Research local media contact info and collect phone numbers and e-mail addresses for all local newspapers, radio stations, TV stations and appropriate websites/blogs you want to contact (info can be found via the internet)

5 Weeks in Advance of Any Food or Fund Drive Activity: Contact local newspapers and appropriate Web sites/blogs and ask for the calendar editor. Secure calendar listings announcing food drive or fund drive.

  • Distribute updated media alert to local newspaper calendar contacts and appropriate Web site/blog editors
  • Make follow up calls to confirm that they have received information

4 Weeks in Advance of Any Food or Fund Drive Activity: Follow up with newspaper and/or Web/blog calendar contacts to confirm calendar placements.

  • Contact any local TV station morning show producers about in-studio interviews opportunities to discuss your work with the Let’s Can Hunger Challenge
  • Offer up pre-selected media contact for an in-studio interview

2 Weeks in Advance of Any Food or Fund Drive Activity: Contact local newspaper features, food and news editors to discuss preview stories to promote the drive and your work locally.

  • Offer up your media contact for an interview to discuss your work
  • Invite newspapers to “see you in action”
  • Contact local radio stations morning shows about interview opportunities to discuss your work
  • Offer up your media contact for in-studio interviews

Week of Any Food or Fund Drive Activity: Distribute Alert about the food or fund drive to local media. E-Mail/Fax information to:

  • TV assignment desks
  • Newspaper city, food and photography desks
  • Radio news directors
  • Appropriate Web sites or blogs
  • Make follow up calls to confirm they have received info
